Work Experience

We offer placements to a number of work experience students each year, across all departments. Many of our work experience students become involved with the Corn Exchange after their placements, as volunteers, ambassadors, audience members and occasionally joining our staff team.

Below we have listed our most frequently asked questions regarding work experience opportunities.

To apply, download and return the form at the bottom of this page.

FAQs

Are there set times of the year when work experience is available?

No, each application is decided on an individual basis depending on our programming.

Are work experience placements at the Corn Exchange mainly for actors?

Absolutely not! Work experience placements do not offer any opportunity to act – in fact you’ll get to do more or less everything apart from act.

Can I come and do work experience at the Corn Exchange one day a week for a long period of time rather than just for a week?

This is occasionally possible, but we will always ask you to come in for a probationary week before committing to any agreement.

Can I do work experience in costume design/make up/prop making?

Because the Corn Exchange does not produce pieces of theatre, we can generally only offer work experience in the day to day running of a theatre rather than work directly related to theatre production. ie – you will be working in an office rather than a dressing room or a rehearsal room.

How do I apply?

Fill in our application form and return to our Learning Manager Sam Sampson.

Do I have to have previous experience of working in a theatre?

No! We accept people of all levels of experience for placements. However, we receive more applications than we can accept so if you can show that you have an interest in the theatre your application will be more likely to succeed.

How long are the hours?

Theatre office hours are normally 10am - 6pm, but depending on the week’s programme we might ask you to work in the evening instead to help with a performance.
