Calling all Knitters!

Be part of World Wide Knit in Public Day 2014.

Be part of World Wide Knit in Public Day 2014.

The Corn Exchange is hosting Newbury’s 2014 World Wide Knit in Public Day! WWKiP was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other's company and now is the largest knitter-run event in the world! WWKiP Day is about showing the general public that knitting can be a community activity in a very distinct way.

If you would like to be part of this celebration of all things woollen, join us between 10am and 2pm on Thursday 12th June, outside the Corn Exchange, and try your hand at knitting. Our very own Stitch & Chat group, led by local textile artist Mandi Bainbridge, will be on hand to get everyone started and give advice. You are also welcome to bring along your own knitting, crochet or textile projects to add to our woollen creations - last year, we created a fantastic knitted chair that took pride of place in our Balcony Bar! The pieces of knitting that are created during the day will be made into a small installation as part of the Homegrown exhibition at New Greenham Arts, which will be up between Friday 6 June 2014 and Thursday 17 July 2014.

Wool and needles will be provided and no experience is necessary – just bring yourselves and lots of enthusiasm! Knitters can enjoy a free hot drink from the Coffee House at the Corn Exchange. To find out more about this world-wide event, visit the World Wide Knit in Public Day website.
